Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello Finishes her Tenure Strong at LASU
On Wednesday 12th of August, 2026, at the Lagos State University senate Chambers, the 9th Substantive Vice Chancellor addressing the Press Conference for the 29th & 30th convocation ceremony sated that, “This combined convocation is particularly historic for me, it is the final convocation I would preside over as Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University.”
She mentioned some foremost activities that were to take place during the Convocation week, some of which includes,
– Staff celebration
– Coconut breaking festival
– Degree and Diploma awards
– Convocation lecture
– Doctorate awards.
The Vice Chancellor in the conference gave reports that Lagos State University would be graduating over 20,604 students for 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 sessions.
Below are the breakdown of graduating students;
2024/2025
– Diploma program: 65 distinctions, 521 upper credits, 354 lower credits and 7 passes.
– First degree programs:7,621 students graduated, 262 First class honours, 3,155 second class upper , 3,439- second class lower, 622 third class, 37 pass and 106 unclassified degrees.
Ayilara Lawal Olawale from the department of Project Management, Faculty of Management Sciences got an average of 4.96 becoming the overall Best Graduating students 2024/2026 set.
2025/2026
DIPLOMA: 44 students graduated with 33 gaining upper credit and 11 lower credit.
FIRST DEGREE: 8,653 students graduated, 232 had a first class, 3545- second class upper, 4,157 had a second class lower, 678, third class and 31 pass.
Adebajo Olumide from the department of Aerospace engineering, Faculty of engineering emerged as the best graduating student for 2025/2026 set with an an average of 4.97.
The Vice Chancellor also gave further remarkable achievements in LASU during her tenure.
-Commissioning of Babajide Sanwolu Library
– LASU became most subscribed university in Nigeria.
-Achievements of alumni; Mrs. Aminat Yusuf was named 2026 Rhodes Scholar in West Africa securing scholarship to Oxford University.
– Nine graduates of law finished at Nigerian Law School with first class honours.
– LASU secured 3 billion naira under a TETFUND initiative for institutional development.
The VC mentioned that infrastructural development remains an integral part of LASU’s system mentioning some relevant projects achieved during her tenure.
The Vice Chancellor assured security stating that the school is in contact with National security agencies, health personnel and two ambulances for any emergencies to ensure smooth running of the Convocation.
