LASUSU Induct Freshers Alongside Interfaculty Debate
The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FCMS) emerged as the winner and took home the prize, an award and a cash prize of Hundred thousand Naira.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. So it is for all freshers in attendance for this event. The Lagos State University Student Union (LASUSU) have put together an event for the Newly-admitted students. The freshers Induction Summit, taking centre stage at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, right in the Lagos State University. From the Office of the 36th LASUSU Vice President, it is tagged “Striking the Balance Beyond the Classroom”.
Duly required, National honour comes first. The program kicked off with singing the national anthem, the Chairperson of the event was formally introduced – the Vice President of LASUSU, Omoyeni Moyosore, who delivered the welcome address. She warmly recognized the notable dignitaries present, including the 36th LASUSU President – Comrade Adebayo Peter Akorede (APK), the Public Relations Officer – Comrade Abdulmalik Akano (5 Star), the Welfare Director – Comrade Adepegba Aderemilekun.

Other dignitaries were invited to speak on major issues that concern students, they include; the 36th LASUSU Sport Director, Comr. Folashade Ekun, who spoke about how students can successfully manage academics with sports. The Dean of Faculty of Media and Mass Communications, Dr. Fatunji Stephen was also present, he encouraged students to think big, emphasising the importance of staying focused and not being distracted by social activities. Faculty of Arts Welfare Director, Comrade Adedigba also spoke, about discipline and student engagement. The President of Junior Chamber International (JCI), Suliat Mogaji was also present to educate on the JCI community and to implore students not to miss out on the opportunities available.
Entertainment and engagement sessions weren’t left out to keep the atmosphere lively, the MC coordinated several interactive activities. Selected students participated in fun challenges and games, helping to maintain high energy in the hall. Few students were also given the opportunity to pitch their brands, to create some level of awareness and encourage student entrepreneurship.

All of these were followed by one of the major highlights of the day, a heated debate session. The representatives have been narrowed down from 12 contesting Faculties to the final two which were Faculty of Communication & Media Studies (FCMS) and Faculty of Law; the representatives debated the topic:
“Should professionalism be valued over loyalty in politics?”

The session was moderated by The Lagos State Youth Ambassador between the Faculty of Communication & Media Studies and the Faculty of Law, with a panel of judges present to determine the winner.

Presentation of awards was also not left out, the chief speaker of the day, the mother of the Vice President – Mrs. Abosede was called upon to present the awards. an Award of excellence was presented to the winners of the debate and also to the President of LASUSU, Comr. Akorede Peters (APK).
Conclusively, It was an electrifying event put together by the Office of the Vice President. Students from different faculties came, to observe, learn and enjoy. The event was lively, interactive, and impactful. a blend of academics, leadership, student engagement, and entertainment, giving freshers a balanced introduction to life beyond the classroom.
